The Field Read  ·  a paid first read before the full Assay

Before you commission the research, buy the read.

A look, not a measurement. Clean sessions against the open record. Single pass. No frozen battery, no control set, no second reader.

It shows you the shape of the problem — where the record breaks, and in whose language. It cannot tell you the size of it, and it is never dressed as a baseline.

It is not a miniature Assay. It is not a free audit disguised as business development. It is a paid piece of judgment.

The Field Read is judgment. The Assay is measurement.

The premise

The question is no longer what the company said. It is what the machine learned.

Websites, interviews, product pages, press, reviews, retailer copy, histories, customer language and decades of accumulated description now sit inside one machine-readable corpus, and AI systems interrogate that record on behalf of humans.

The Assay exists to measure that rigorously. But not every company needs an Assay, and not every interesting observation deserves a research program.

What the work is

A small, fixed-scope strategic diagnostic. Four forms of observation.

01 · The record

What the company has actually put into public circulation — the facts, language, provenance, distinctions, claims, product truths, people and evidence that should make it legible. The concern is not whether good content exists. It is whether the record carries enough specificity for an outside system to understand what makes the company meaningfully different.

02 · The category

Where the company sounds distinct, and where it has collapsed into category consensus. Machines do not encounter a company in isolation. They encounter competing claims.

03 · The machine

A limited set of AI-mediated consideration questions, used to see how the company appears when a machine is asked to help someone decide. These are exploratory observations, not Assay scores.

04 · The judgment

Rebel.Rebel interprets the evidence. That is the product. Not screenshots. Not prompt volume. Not an automated score.

What you receive

The value is concentration, not page count.

The read

A short executive interpretation of the most consequential finding. What appears to be happening, and why it matters.

What is true

The strongest underlying facts, distinctions, provenance, language, products, people or evidence that should be doing more work than they are.

What the machine sees

Representative observations showing how AI systems currently describe, compare, recommend, omit, flatten or misunderstand the company.

The gap

Where the company’s actual substance and its machine representation separate: strong fame but weak preference; category language replacing proprietary language; important facts that are hard to retrieve; competitive claims outranking stronger underlying evidence; appearing in the cohort but losing the verdict; provenance that exists but does not travel; a position never sufficiently entered into the public record. Or no meaningful problem at all.

The next question

If deeper work is warranted, the question an Assay should answer. Not the solution. The research question.

The decision

One of three findings.

None

No material evidence currently warrants deeper work. The same word the Assay uses, for the same verdict.

Bounded

A specific weakness exists and could likely be addressed through a focused editorial or strategic intervention.

Structural

The evidence suggests a larger representation problem worth measuring formally through The Assay.

The Field Read can legitimately conclude that there is no material problem. That is part of the product.

What it is not

The Field Read makes none of the Assay’s claims, and says so.

Not a complete AI visibility audit, an SEO audit, or a reputation-monitoring report.

Not a prompt-volume dashboard or a full competitive benchmark.

Not a formal Retrieval or Fidelity score, and not a statistically valid Assay baseline.

No claim to statistical authority, platform comparability or longitudinal measurement.

Not a complete editorial strategy, and not a strategy engagement hidden inside a cheap product.

Not a sales deck designed to frighten a client into buying more work.

The machine could retrieve the name. It could not retrieve a reason to choose it.

If the evidence does not support a larger problem, the Field Read says so. That independence is what makes it worth buying.

The operating sequence

Field Read · judgment

See the problem.

The Assay™ · measurement

Measure the problem. This is the baseline, and the only thing here that produces one.

Editorial · authorship

Repair the record.

Standing Wave™ · proof

Run the same decision space again, and prove whether it moved.

The Field Read establishes whether the problem deserves measurement. The Assay establishes its size, location and behaviour.

Commission one

$2,500. Fixed scope. One company, one question.

The Field Read is bought, not pitched for. There is no proposal stage and no discovery call to sit through first. You name the company and the decision you are worried about, and the read comes back as a written interpretation.

If the read finds nothing worth measuring, it says so plainly. That is a legitimate outcome and it is the reason the read is paid.
