What a certificate attests

The battery

Frozen and dated before observation. A test that changes to flatter the client is not a test.

The readers

Readings are made blind, by more than one reader. Reader identity is held in the terms of engagement.

The threshold

A certificate does not issue unless the readers agree past the house threshold.

Disagreement

Recorded, never averaged away.

The control set

Mandatory. Movement is reported control-adjusted; the category’s tide is subtracted before any boat claims to have risen.

The referee

Model versions are disclosed in every report.

A study can conclude that nothing is wrong.

The scale

Base · Plate · Sterling · Fine.

Retrieval and Fidelity publish in four bands, one ladder for both. Sterling is the shipping bar. The numbers stay in the ledger, where it takes a real move to mean anything.

What a certificate carries

Nine facts, and nothing that teaches the battery: the designation · the subject · the decision measured · the date · the method version · the two bands · the disposition · the verdict line · the seal.

The Assay is a leading indicator, never revenue attribution. Bad quarters are reported as bad quarters.

The Assay™ seal The office seal, struck on certificates and published waves. Nº and date are completed per strike, never pre-printed. A machine can fabricate a gold rule; it cannot fabricate a serial that resolves at /verify.

The score punch The fineness mark. Certificates only, only beside the seal, R and F completed in ink. The seal may appear without the punch; the punch never appears without the seal.

The Touchstone™ streak The stone is geometry; the streak is not. Struck on Touchstone property only. Drawn once, never redrawn.
